| Closed cell attic insulation under roof sheathing |
This type of insulation has a very high R-value of 6 to 7.5 per inch. This also acts as an air, moisture, and vapor barrier. This resulted in a sprayed-in layer of about 4 inches, leading to a minimum R-24 insulation level. |
|
| Open cell attic insulation |
This type of insulation has an R-value of 3.5 to 4 per inch. This resulted in a sprayed in layer of at least 12 inches, resulting in at a minimum of an R-42 insulation level. |
|
| Total attic insulation |
The attic insulation resulted in a combined more than R-62, which is greater than what is required for attic insulation. |
|
| Fire resistant paint on attic insulation |
As spayed-in foam can be combustible, a fire-resistant paint was sprayed on the bottom side of the insulation to make it less prone to burning. |
|
| Exterior wall insulation |
The conditioned areas of the home that are part of exterior walls are framed with 2 X 6 studs are insulated with dense-pack, blown-in fiberglass insulation that has an R-23 value for these areas. The walls around the staircase are about 12 inches thick, resulting in an R-48 value. |
|
| All-In-One Vapor Barrier, Insulation, and Stucco Lath Panels |
Instead of having three layers put down on the outside of the home in preparation for the installation of stucco (vapor barrier, continuous air barrier, built-in exterior insulation, and integrated structural sheathing with integral lathe, there are 4 foot (~1.2 m) X 8 foot (~2.4 m) panels installed with screws, making the installation of the preparation materials faster. |

| Stucco Lathe Panel Foam |
The stucco lathe panels also have bonded 2 inch (50 mm) thick non-combustible foam resulting in an additional R-10 insulation |

| Overall Wall Insulation |
The overall insulation of the walls is over R-33 with the stairs being over R-58. This helps make the home to be very energy efficient, so much so that the Idea Home has an incredibly low HERS rating of 10. |
|
| Garage Door Insulation |
The garage doors and the front door are made out of metal, and their cores are insulated with expandable foam. |
|
| Wall Heights |
The first floor of the home has walls that are 10 feet tall, and the basement and 2nd floor are 9 feet tall. |
|
| Drywall Thickness |
The interior of the home uses 1/2 inch thick drywall and the garage walls is 5/8 inch thick. |
|
| Drywall Texture |
The texture used on the walls and the ceiling is skip trowel. This type of texture is very Tuscan looking and is also very easy to patch, as necessary. |
|
| Light Reflectance Value |
The light reflectance value (LRV) difference of the walls to the trim and doors is about 15 points, enough to help someone with vision challenges to see where a wall ends and where a door begins. |
|
| Passageway Arches |
Passageways have eyebrow arches to give the home a Tuscan feel. |
|
| Stucco |
The outside of the home was coated with stucco. Stucco is very resistant to burning as it is primarily a cement. |
